They’re the words most pet owners fear hearing the most: “Your pet needs surgery.”

For many animal caregivers, the thought of bringing their beloved four-legged family member in for an operation can be downright frightening. Maybe you’re concerned about whether your companion will be properly monitored or you’re nervous that he or she will experience too much pain. The team at Cornell Center Animal Hospital understands the feelings of uncertainty and concern you’re experiencing, and we’re ready to put your mind at ease.

At CCAH, we work hard to make sure that every surgery performed in our hospital – whether it’s a routine spay or neuter or a complex orthopedic procedure – is as positive and stress-free an experience as possible for both pet owners and animals alike. We have all of the surgical services, up to date equipment and techniques and professional experience to meet all of your pet’s surgical needs.

Our highly skilled veterinarians have decades of experience performing a full range of surgical services for dogs and cats, as well as some pocket pets. Some of the more common surgeries we perform include routine spays and neuters, as well as mass removals and a wide range of other surgical services. We are also equipped and prepared to conduct emergency surgery, should the need arise. We strive to always meet the highest standards for veterinary surgery protocol and safety, which means your pet will be in excellent hands with our surgical team!

If surgery is recommended for your pet, the first step is conducting a thorough evaluation to make sure they are healthy enough to proceed. This is particularly important for older animals, or those that suffer from existing health problems. If given the green light, our team will begin by developing a customized pain management plan, utilizing only the safest available anesthetic products, and tailoring the approach to your pet’s unique needs. We want to keep your pet comfortable while also reducing risk at every turn.

During surgery, your pet will have their own personal veterinary technician, who will closely monitor their wellbeing at all times. We’ll enhance your pet’s comfort during the procedure by using a heating pad, which will keep them warm throughout the process. Our doctors will work diligently and efficiently, while our dedicated care team will remain ready to assist in any way necessary. Regardless of whether the procedure being performed is one that is done dozens of times a day, or something much more rare and complex, your pet will receive the highest level of attention and care.

Once surgery has been completed, we’ll move your pet to our clean, warm and comfortable recovery area. We’ll then reach out to you to update you on how everything went and let you know when your pet will be ready to go home. In many cases, surgical patients are ready to go home the same day as surgery. When you arrive to pick up your pet, we’ll explain our postsurgical care instructions, which may include a plan for pain control to make your pet’s recovery at home more comfortable.

If you just found out your pet needs an operation, there’s no need to panic – especially when you’ve got the right team on your side! We’ll have your pet fixed up and on the road to a full and speedy recovery in no time!
